Folding Hand
In Texas Hold-em, why would you fold a hand when you have the opportunity to “check” and stay in the game?
I’ve always wondered that. People fold when they can just stay in the game by checking. You dont have to bid.
Why do they fold?
I’ll do this occassionally and her is my reason…
If I’m the first to act (first person left of the dealer) then I’ll probably check the flop if I don’t have anything and don’t want to try and bluff. If it looks like someone is getting ready to bet I might just fold because it’ll speed things up (they won’t have to wait when it comes back around to me).
If it checks around and the turn comes and still doesn’t give me anything I might then fold versus checking. Why? Because if everyone checks and the flop comes and people check again, I have to show my cards first. I don’t like being in the position of showing my cards first because the more show, the more it gives away how you play to other players.
This is really just one of a million strategies of poker to confuse, challenge, set up your opponents.
