Camera Sharp
To produce a sharp image when you hand-hold a camera with a 100mm lens what shutter speed do you use?
There has been much debate on this, both here in these Q’s & A’s, but also way back in Ansel Adams days.
The so called rule of thumb is – shutter speed should equal to or be greater than the lens size in mm’s..
Example – Your shooting with a 200mm lens. Your shutter speed should be 1/200 – or faster…
However, Ansel Adams was quoted saying 1/250 for anything hand held, or faster, and if anything, USE a tripod..!
Do it your self. sand bag or tripod your camera looking at ’something’.. Use the self timer so you do not touch the camera at exposure time. Take a series of pics. Do it again, but this time, YOU hand hold the camera and YOU push the shutter button (self timer off).
I shocked my self. I was NOT holding my camera(s) as well as I thought and I was NOT getting the sharpness my equipment could deliver.
Many people take a deep breath, hold their breath, then shoot…
WRONG…………….!
When you hold your breath, the whole upper body is actually quivering. Your body is tight… You need to relax.
Army Sniper – 101… Do NOT hold your breath. Force your self to breath – normally, in and out. At the BOTTOM of a breath, when you are your calmest, and NOT quivering… you pull the trigger..! In this case, it’s gently push the shutter button.
Push.. As in gently. Almost surprise your self it went off. If you jab hard you are actually pushing down on the camera inducing all kinds of blur and the camera is now no longer aimed where you wanted.
Treat the shutter button like a body part. Be soft. Be gentle. Be kind to it. If you are, it will treat you back well too….
